'Jessica's all at sea as a dancer'

JESSICA Watson broke records as the youngest person to sail around the world - but on Sunday night she broke a record she never wanted to.

The 18-year-old Sunshine Coaster achieved the lowest score in this year's season of television's Dancing with the Stars.

The judges did not hold back after Jessica did the jive with her dance partner Damien Samuel.

They called the Buderim girl's performance "hideous", "appalling" and "unco-ordinated" and likened her to a "flailing Bambi".

For her attempt Jessica was awarded a total of eight, half that of the second lowest score.

But the spirited 2011 Young Australian of the Year is not going to let such comments deter her.

"They said I couldn't sail around the world and I did," she said.

"They are now saying I can't dance, so I will prove them wrong."

And like the once unco-ordinated fawn Bambi, Jessica is determined that her story will have a happy ending.

Smiling throughout the criticism, she said: "I think we needed the knock back. I knew I couldn't dance, we've got work to do."

Daytime TV queen Kerri-Anne Kennerley topped the scores for the night - straight nines - but it did not go all her way, either.

She slipped during her routine with partner Carmelo Pizzino, but laughed it off.

"I must be a dancer now because I wake up sore," Kennerley said.

"It was terrific. I love surprises."

The first to be voted off the show was model Erin McNaught.

After the first weekend, she was ranked in the bottom two with Brian McFadden's fiancee Vogue Williams.
