UPDATE 6.30PM SUNDAY: The latest advice from police is that the Burnett Traffic Bridge will still remain open 24 hours for essential travel, but the 6pm curfew will still apply to the former exclusion zone in North Bundaberg.

UPDATE 3PM SUNDAY: Residents of North Bundaberg intending to use the One Mile Road/Hanbury Street/Perry Street route to the Bundaberg CBD on Monday for work are asked to consider car pooling or walking.

Significant congestion is occurring via this route and motorists can expect considerable delays.

Please consider an appropriate travel time and allow for delays.

Sightseers continue to be a major problem and motorists with other than urgent requirements to utilize the Burnett Traffic Bridge are requested to keep away from the area.

Heavier than expected traffic, mainly due to non essential sightseeing traffic, has caused part of the pavement of Hanbury Street to commence breaking up.

Council staff will assess the road and further traffic interruptions or road closures may be required after 6pm to effect repairs to the pavement.

Council has again appealed to people not living in the North Bundaberg area to stay away as their travel is severely impacting on traffic flow.

UPDATE, 11.30AM SUNDAY: Due to extreme congestion regarding access to the Burnett Traffic Bridge, motorists are advised that only drivers requiring urgent access to the northside or to the CBD should attempt to cross the bridge.

Currently traffic is banked to the vicinity of the Bundaberg Base Hospital on the south side.

The Local Disaster Management Group reiterates that only motorists with an urgent access requirement to the Bridge should attempt to cross.

UPDATE, 10AM SUNDAY: The Burnett Traffic Bridge will remain open to traffic 24 hours a day.

Mayor Mal Forman said work by road crews and emergency services have enabled the Perry Street/Hanbury Street/One Mile Road route between North Bundaberg and the Bundaberg CBD to remain open to traffic 24 hours a day.

Cr. Forman stressed that only essential light vehicle movements are permitted on the route.

Caution is urged if the route is being traversed at night as only limited lighting is available.
