Dragons down on luck with Stanley suffering knee problems

TALENTED Dragons utility Kyle Stanley could be forced to sit out most of the 2013 NRL season after re-injuring his right knee in a freak accident.

The 21-year-old, earmarked for a key role in the halves in the coming season, will find out tomorrow whether he needs a second knee reconstruction.

Stanley had a full reconstruction in July after rupturing his ACL in the round 19 match against the Sharks, and had been part of up to a dozen Dragons players in the club's rehab group.

The accident happened when he slipped on a wet surface away from the training venue.

Performance director Andrew Gray said the club would know more after getting the result of scans taken yesterday.
"Due to Kyle's previous history with knee injuries, we're ... seeking the opinions of multiple specialists before determining the best cause of action," Gray said.

Stanley has also had two major operations on his left knee.

After the retirement of skipper Ben Hornby at the end of last season, Stanley was set to partner Jamie Soward in the halves in 2013.

If the worst case scenario eventuates with the injury, the Dragons may be forced to look to the likes of Nathan Fien or former Manly U20s player Josh Drinkwater.
