Coalition still leading in polls

THE Coalition continues to hold a commanding election-winning lead in the latest Newspoll.

The poll, published in The Australian, had the Coalition leading Labor 56-44 per cent on a two-party-preferred basis. The previous poll had the Coalition leading 57-43 per cent.

Both Labor and the Coalition's primary vote jumped one point on the previous poll, to 29 per cent and 48 per cent respectively.

The Greens primary vote also rose one point, to 12 per cent. The poll was conducted over the weekend, coinciding with news of Bob Brown's resignation as Greens leader.
