SUNSHINE Coast resort owner  Clive Palmer has alleged a plot involving the Newman government to seize his assets and put him in jail.

In a sensational press conference in Brisbane, Mr Palmer said senior people in the Queensland public service and lobby groups had been working to "shut Clive Palmer up" and ensure he was not a "political problem".

"People in the government and senior figures in the public service were conspiring to put me in jail, and to confiscate all the assets that I have," he said.

Mr Palmer said he had first heard of the claims about three weeks ago but did not give them credence.

But he said more evidence had come forward since then, which he refused to release or detail.

"Over the last two to three weeks substantial evidence has been brought forward and I am satisfied beyond a reasonable doubt that there's no doubt that this is true."

He urged young reporters to go and read the Fitzgerald Inquiry report, suggesting the culture in Queensland was no worse than when corruption flourished in the police service.

Mr  Palmer also blasted MP Ray Stevens, saying he had misled Parliament and should do the decent thing and resign.

LNP MP Alex Douglas was dumped by his own party as the chair of the legal affairs committee on Wednesday after suggesting there was something sinister about his ousting as chair of the ethics committee and deputy chair of the parliamentary crime and misconduct committee a day earlier.

Dr Douglas said at no stage did he ask to be removed from the ethics committee role, despite Premier Campbell Newman telling parliament he had.

Dr Douglas has also asked for Leader of the House Ray Stevens to retract accusations Dr Douglas was was happy with the changes to his role. reported Mr Palmer is rumoured to be planning to establish the United Party, with the aim of potentially forming a coalition with Federal MP Bob Katter's party.

Mr Katter has previously indicated he would be open to the idea, after he and the mining billionaire resolved a dispute about the flying in of foreign workers to Australian mines.

Mr Palmer quit his membership of the Liberal National Party, just hours after being reinstated following a suspension.

He has blasted the government's handling of the economy, accusing its public servant job slashing program in particular.
