CareFlight airlifts marine sting victim from Fraser Island

RACQ CareFlight Rescue has airlifted a 22-year-old woman from Fraser Island after she suffered a marine sting.

The woman from the Gold Coast had been swimming at Platypus Bay when she was reportedly stung by a marine stinger.

The woman was treated by local Queensland Ambulance Service officers on the island before the Bundaberg-based rescue helicopter crew was tasked to assist the woman at 1.40pm today.

It's thought the species of marine stinger was possibly an Irukandji jellyfish.

The woman was airlifted to Bundaberg Hospital in a stable condition.

This is the third patient suffering marine stings CareFlight crews have airlifted from Fraser Island since Friday afternoon.

Shortly after 2.30pm on Friday, the Sunshine Coast-based crew was tasked to airlift a five year old suffering a marine sting, while the Bundaberg crew airlifted a 16-year-old female who was also reportedly stung later that evening.
