THOUSANDS of people poured into the Brisbane CBD this morning to congratulate the Roar soccer team on their grand final win over the weekend.

The Brisbane team rode in hot rod cars up Queen Street Mall as fans swarmed around them, snapping photos, shaking their hands and throwing colourful streamers.

The soccer team won the A-league grand final 2-1 against Perth Glory on Sunday.

The triumph attracted controversy due to Roar winning in the final minutes of the game on a penalty.

But the negativity surrounding the match was nowhere to be seen at this morning's ticker-tape parade with fans cheering and praising the team the entire way up Queen St mall.

The team donned their bright orange team colours as they made their way to the centre stage where Premier Campbell Newman congratulated them on their win.

Ormiston couple Neil Casey and Judy Haynes proudly sported their own team jerseys as they cheered on their favourite players.

Mr Casey brushed aside the reported controversy that had clouded the team's win as he "firmly believed" the penalty was warranted.

"The game was a bit slow at the start but the second half was fantastic," he said.

Mrs Haynes said the atmosphere at the final game on Sunday at Suncorp Stadium was overwhelming.

Premier Campbell Newman said the win held a special significance as the team was the first in the history of the A-League to win back-to-back grand finals.
