PROMISES brings together romance and horses, which makes it a top read for me.

Australian author Cathryn Hein had me from the first page and I'm sure anyone who likes romance novels without bodice ripping or cliché phrases will also love this story.

Set against a world that Hein knows only too well - the author comes from a racing background - Promises tells the story of Sophie Dixon, a dressage rider at the top of her game who's looking for a horse to take her into the international arena.

She's captivated by rough nut stallion Rogue Explorer, or Rowdy, and is determined to buy him from trainer Aaron Laidlaw who is not a bad looking stud himself. But then Rowdy starts to win races...

For his part, Aaron begins to like having Sophie around but there's bad blood between the families.

Aaron knows the past must be put behind them if he and Sophie are to have any future, but when Sophie finds out the truth about the death of her mother, even love may not be enough to set them free.

Promises is full of drama and passion.
