Barnes takes the lead in Div 5

UPDATED 10.20am: SITTING councillor Greg Barnes has taken a narrow lead in the race for the Division 5 seat on Bundaberg Regional Council.

Just a handful of votes have separated Cr Barnes from challenger Kerry Short since counting began on Saturday night.

Cr Barnes, with 1884 votes, is now 87 votes ahead of Mr Short who has 1797.
