LNP faithful of Hinkler to pre-select a candidate

Hinkler's card-carrying LNP members will vote on retiring incumbent Paul Neville's successor.
Hinkler's card-carrying LNP members will vote on retiring incumbent Paul Neville's successor.

THE LNP faithful of Hinkler will pre-select a candidate on Saturday to run at the next Federal election as a successor to retiring incumbent Paul Neville.

The vote will be held in Bundaberg and organisers predict about 100 card-carrying LNP members will attend the endorsement meeting.

Hervey Bay will field two candidates, though the LNP has been at pains to describe the process as regional rather than a parochial city-based vote.

Accountant Geoff Redpath and school principal Len Fehlhaber will fly the colours for the southern half of the electorate while four candidates will present for the northern section.

Cathy Heidrich and Chris McLoughlin work for Mr Neville and Member for Bundaberg Jack Dempsey respectively.

Greg McMahon is employed by Corrective Services and Keith Pitt works in the training and employment sector.

Among LNP members there has been some disquiet expressed at the vote being held in Bundaberg.

LNP members must be physically present to be able to vote and the staging of the pre-selection process in Bundaberg is seen to favour candidates from the northern part of the Hinkler electorate.
