Aussies rate sense of humour, intelligence over appearance

98 per cent of men admitted to disliking a fake appearance, with 90 per cent agreeing that real breasts look better than fake breasts.

AS summer sets in and temperatures begin to rise, Aussies strive to hone and tone their appearances to get beach-ready.

However, a new study quizzing Australians on their attitudes to beauty has revealed that this effort may well be in vain.

Results showed that when it comes to attracting a prince charming (or princess), inner beauty reigns, with almost 85 per cent of Aussies rating a sense of humour and intelligence more important than a perfect appearance.

The survey, commissioned by Universal Sony Pictures Home Entertainment to mark the DVD release of Snow White and the Huntsman, also found that despite the time and effort Aussies spend year on year on looking good, it's what's on the inside that counts, with 82 per cent rating kindness as more important than a good physique.

In addition, 94 percent of women found men with brains more attractive than those with a muscular build, and 86 per cent of women valued a man's love of animals over his six-pack.

Fashion expert, Kate Waterhouse said the survey results reveal that whilst we're spending time and money on beauty regimes and cosmetic enhancements, at the end of the day, we value natural looks and inner beauty as the most attractive attributes.

"The Universal Sony survey found that in reality we are not that dissimilar to the Snow White fairytale ideal, with the research results mirroring the plot involving thecharacters of the evil queen Ravenna, (Charlize Theron) and Snow White (Kristen Stewart), where a beautiful appearance is inferior to a kind heart," she said.

"Indeed, the research shows that a sense of humour and a caring nature go much further than a fake tan and bulging biceps."

Despite cosmetic surgery rapidly becoming the norm, with Aussies set to spend $850 million on plastic surgery this year,* 98 per cent of men admitted to disliking a fake appearance, with 90 per cent agreeing that real breasts look better than fake breasts. In fact, 93 per cent of the males polled stated they would prefer a beautiful smile to cosmetic enhancements.

"The results show that when it comes to inner beauty, Aussies want to be laughed into bed, with Aussie women choosing Will Anderson as their top celebrity guilty-pleasure crush, followed by Karl Stefanovic in close second," Kate said.

"Aussie men were also attracted to quick wit and comedic timing, by voting Kitty Flanagan as their top secret celebrity crush."

The survey also asked the public to crown their ultimate Australian beauty king and queen from a host of legendary lookers, with men choosing Jennifer Hawkins and Miranda Kerr as their reigning beauties.

For women, Hugh Jackman topped the poll, followed by Simon Baker and Chris Hemsworth.

Snow White and the Huntsman, starring Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth will be available to take home on November 7th.
