HAVE YOU heard about Community Arts on Goondoon? Even if you are a local it's possible that you've not yet discovered one of the Gladstone region's treasures.

A community run space tucked away on "The Doon", as it's lovingly referred to by members, once you've found it you'll wonder how you missed it.

The basement space is nestled behind Katies, with access from Roseberry St or Central Lane.

A project offered by Creative Gladstone Region Inc. with funding provided for its establishment by the Rio Tinto Community Fund, it exists only through the hard work and dedication of loyal volunteers who give their time and energy to develop an arts hub in the Gladstone CBD.

Every month new exhibitions showcase the work of local artists and arts groups and give opportunities for emerging artists to learn from those more experienced in both practice and presentation of work.

For newer artists, the prospect of both showing and promoting their work can be daunting, but the art centre offers support to anyone interested in art to help them develop their skills.

Members have the chance to sell their work through the retail shop, and the centre features three gallery spaces as well as a printmaking studio and general purpose workspace for hire.

Workshops and art classes for adults and children are offered and the centre is always looking for art workers to offer something different.

"The Doon" opens Monday to Friday 10am-2pm and Saturday until midday. Phone 4972 1919.
